When you idolise a person, you will never forget how awesome they are, even if you had met them ages ago. The feelings of excitement is overwhelming, and then the euphoria as we spoke about the things that we love and hate, the one person that we always look up to as a great role model, the person we have been blessed to call a leader.
Charisma, wit, humour- all those are endearing qualities. Hard work, dedication, discipline, the more I think about people from the good ol' times, the more inspired I become. While my current playground may lack a bunch of cool kids, it is not bad at all. The leader is refined, polite and open and genuinely nice. Packing up at 3 pm today was a surreal feeling, and even more so the personal handshake and warm wishes.
While we reflect on the good things wistfully and embrace what's new, may we not take things for granted and appreciate all that is.

Wonder Woman
After watching Wonder Woman last night, I was suddenly bestowed with magnificent aura of energy today. The Japanese would call that genki. Today I was super duper genki.
While superheroes battle extreme evil and try to save mankind and (gasp!) mankind's own humanity, I am beginning to find a great sense of purpose in the little things we do in life. A scene that stood out strongly for me was that, despite the movie being set in World War I, humans haven't actually changed that much. We may be more 'modern' now and obtain better material things, but the core of humanity such as empathy, love, kindness, hatred, jealousy, anger etc. are still there. The scene goes like this:
"Is this what you do when there is no war?"
"This (slow dancing)... and other things,"
"Breakfast, read the papers, go to work, get married, and grow old together I suppose,"
"What is that like?"
"I... I don't know."
Waking up earlier than anybody else, I felt the sense of peace in the morning. The stillness, the quietness, and then eventually having a lot of space to think of devoting that time to do something nice. When everyone was awake, I had made guacamole, played the piano and then made scrambled eggs. All before 9.30 am. Which was an incredible feeling.
I think that in times of war in the past, you hear and perhaps see so much suffering, to be alive itself is considered a blessing, and to have your family or loved ones together is almost a miracle. I am very happy that we still talk about Mom from time to time. Including when it comes to music and food, and other things.
Happiness isn't really a goal, it's a feeling, fleeting. But contentment and meaning makes life wonderful.
